Knot Sum

Two oriented knots (or links) can be summed by placing them side by side and joining them by straight bars so that orientation is preserved in the sum. This operation is denoted #, so the knot sum of knots $K_1$ and $K_2$ is written

$$K_1\char93 K_2=K_2\char93 K_1.$$
